What Did Archimedes Discover?

Archimedes realized that when an object is placed in water, it displaces a volume of water equal to its own volume. By comparing the water displaced by the crown and by a lump of pure gold with the same mass, he could determine if the crown was pure or mixed with other metals. This principle is now known as Archimedes’ Principle.
