Electromagnetic Spectrum
Explore the rainbow of electromagnetic waves that surround us
EM Waves
Gamma Rays
The highest energy waves, used in medicine for cancer treatment and sterilization. Produced by radioactive atoms and nuclear explosions.
X-Rays
Penetrate soft tissue but are absorbed by bones. Essential for medical imaging and airport security scanners.
Ultraviolet
Emitted by the sun. Causes sunburn but also helps produce vitamin D. Used in black lights and sterilization.
Visible Light
The only part of the spectrum humans can see. Ranges from violet (400nm) to red (700nm) wavelengths.
Infrared
Felt as heat. Used in thermal imaging, remote controls, and night vision equipment.
Microwaves
Used in microwave ovens, radar, and telecommunications (including WiFi and mobile phones).
Radio Waves
The longest wavelengths. Used for broadcasting radio and TV signals, and in MRI machines.
